Finally Left the South

1
Because of AIGA, I cast off the excuse of a sheltered childhood.

Much love to my mom and dad, who did their best to give me the best, but seriously, before the 2011 AIGA Leadership Retreat, the farthest north and west I had been was Shreveport, LA.

First it was an honor to serve the New Orleans executive board in the first place, but then to have the opportunity to :

1) Take my first airplane flight
2) Take my first tram-transit system
(subway type of deal)
3) Meet amazing people that I would never have dreamed of meeting.

To be quite honest, if any of you have ever attended a magnet or charter school, it was like I was back there again, relishing in being empowered and inspired, rather than singled out and uncomfortable. I made lots of friends, connections and took away more than I will ever be able to express. AIGA became so much more to me in that room in Minneapolis; it became my family.

So, now I can say that I’ve actually traveled, and on a plane, to meet some of the best folks in the world. Here’s to Salt Lake City, and internet stalking everyone until next year! Thanks AIGA!
