I’m not an outsider anymore

Being in design school has been one of the best times of my life and also the most confusing.  I did my assignments, read the books, soaked in as much as I could and I still felt doubt some days.  I had many questions I would ask myself like “Can I do this? Is this for me?  Why do I feel so lost today?”  There were days where I was convinced that I had no idea what I was doing and that maybe this career I picked was too overwhelming to continue in.  I wondered if going to design school, at 35 no less, was a mistake.

Then I attended an AIGA monthly meeting, a friend dragged me along to it and he told me, this will get you going, this will make you realize that you are connected.  And he was right.  I was a little nervous, and I was intimidated because I was in a room with all of these design professionals that had fought the same fight and lived to tell the tale. They were successful, they knew what they were doing, and most of all, they were there to help people like me.  I left that meeting more empowered and realizing that I can do this.  I joined AIGA a few days later, and I haven’t looked back.

Thank you AIGA, for making me realize what I could accomplish.
