I literally could put a financial figure on how much my local AIGA chapter helped my career. Especially, by becoming involved as a volunteer and then a board member and then programming chair, one positive contact led to another, and then two others and then four others, etc..
I found out what was going on in the local design business market; who had work and who wanted to see my work. It led to lots of new business success for me.
After a decade of working for a non-profit, I had gone out on my own as a sole proprietor designer. Once on my own, AIGA became my life line to the design community and my way back into connection with what was happening in design. I got reconnected with the design community locally, nationally, and even internationally. I found my tribe. I found my inspiration. I found my fellow design warriors fighting the good fight. I found many, many friends for life.
It’s much more than a club for me, it’s my family, my lifeblood. It’s been a blast to be part of AIGA.
