I’ve been a member of AIGA for a while now. A few years ago, when we started the Connecticut chapter, I joined the board. Though I had always been an active participant and sleeve-roller-upper in the local design scene, participation in AIGA suddenly felt like pulling up a chair at the grown-up table. The scale of influence quadrupled. Our new chapter is focused on social philanthropy… we’re doing incredible things for non-profit organizations that would not / could not be achieved by any other creative organization that I know of.

I have connected with people and ideas far beyond the walls of my immediate community and state. I am involved in something now that is larger than my backyard and it feels good to take off my shoes and walk barefoot through the grass with professionals who are as passionate and dedicated to design as I am.

When we are together – at an event, a board meeting, a national gala – I see and feel the power of our organization and how we can collectively support one another and create real change.

I started the spark in Connecticut and helped get the chapter off the ground. Because of that, I have met some fabulous people and learned a lot more than I ever expected. You get what you put into it, ten-fold! Someone told me that and it is the absolute truth!
